2 on 1 sheet

forgot to mention that 2 of my Pixel stools fit onto one 1800mm x 1200mm Xanita sheet, don't know why I did not mention this in my presentation...

The Pixel Stool

I did it..mostly,...

there is still a unwanted gap in my stool which I can not seem to resolve. May try later...

And then F@#K!!

My "Core" joining system is being a pain, I will try to do it out of Xanita now, perhaps the material strength will hold that seam together better.... Off to get my Xanita from the workshop now, hopefully it will fit in a 3 door Hatchback.....

Flat Pattern

The Core

My new joining system which seems to work pretty well, but i will have to create a new mock up to test it fully, it will add much more strength not that it particuarly needs any more, but this may be the only joining system I can get to work by Friday.

Fail!

Another failed joining system...

Finalising in Cardboard...

Putting the finishing touches on my flat pattern before I touch the Xanita because I didn't have my flat pattern 100% and had some things i wanted to refine a little further such as - the seat was a little small and the seat was also a little weak in the middle, changing the scale allowed me to resolve both of these issues. The joining method is still sketchy, so I am just about to attempt something a little different.

Basic Tech Drawing

The basic flat pattern - note joining details absent at the moment.. I was trying to squeeze 2 of my stools onto the one 1200 x 1800 Xanita board, but I would have to reduce my seat size which is already small, so may not be able to do that...

The Joy of Joining

My latest locking/joining/fastening system, this design still leaves a few weak spots which will need to be resolved but it is a step up from sticky tape... actually a step down, but sticky tape is disallowed.. so a step up!

Back To The Cardboard

The paper model mocked up in cardboard

Back To The Paper

Similar but different design resolves some of the problems I was experiencing with internal support structures. Time to mock up in cardboard, plus devise a genius locking system...

finalising in cardboard

A little bit of sticky tape does wonders, this design supports my weight although I doubt it would hold more than 85kg. Just need to work out a good joining system.. It should be stronger in the Xanita, if not I may add some sort of support structure through the centre.

Cardboard time

the last one is a folding alteration of the original flat pattern, it seems a little stronger, the top design only just supports my direct weight but any shifting of weight and it begins to collapse. The main problem is holding it together, the top design is tied together with a string.

Pyra development

still needs a joining system to keep it all together.... doing it in cardboard now, might be easier to work out...

Solidworks makes me so mad

After attempting complex sheet metal folds in solidworks I became very angry so I have ditched the software to create in the real world. this is a very basic stool I created. It is not very comfortable but supports my weight..
